OFFERING

Offering Unto the Lord

An offering is not simply about what we give, but the heart from which it is given. The Scriptures teach that each person should give willingly, not out of pressure or obligation. What we offer should be a decision made freely before God.

“Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.”

2 CORINTHIANS 9:7 (KJV)

WHAT DOES THE WORD OF GOD TEACH?

An Offering from a Willing Heart

The Word of God teaches us that an offering is acceptable according to what a person has, not according to what they do not have. The amount is not what determines a willing heart.

Giving should never be a matter of comparison, pressure, or trying to gain favor with God. Rather, we are instructed to give willingly and according to our ability.

“For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not.”

2 CORINTHIANS 8:12 (KJV)

The Heart of Giving

Giving is not only about what we contribute, but also about helping others. The Word of God reminds us to care for those in need and to remember the words of Jesus Christ: it is more blessed to give than to receive.
